Our Growing Boy

Connor is 6 weeks old today. Can you believe it? I can't believe it is going so fast! Connor has really grown this week. He is not the same little string bean he has been. He has started filling out. I am choosing to believe it has nothing to do with all the cookies I've been eating!

Connor has started smiling more lately, which I love. I'm having a hard time getting a picture of his little smiles though. I'll admit, I like his upset face too. He sticks his lower lip out so far. It is absolutely adorable! I took pictures of that too! He also has very long eyelashes that curl just perfectly. Unfortunately they are so light they don't show up in the pictures. He really has been a lot of fun for us.

The girls are a huge help. Rachel constantly wants me to give her jobs. She carries him all over the place and brings him to me when he's upset. It is very helpful!

Kate lost her first tooth

Happily, Kate finally lost her first tooth last Thursday. It had been loose for two months! For the last week it was completely sideways. She has three more loose teeth, much to her great pleasure. Since her bottom two teeth had already come in behind her baby teeth, it is hard to see where she lost her tooth in the picture.

Happy St. Patricks Day

When I was in kindergarten, way back when, I somehow got it in my head that on St. Patricks Day the leprechaun's come and bring treats, just like the Easter bunny. Well, a new tradition in the Mason family was born. That first St. Patricks day was awesome to say the least. Our house at the time had lots of dark paneling. I remember the amazement to waking up in the morning and seeing little tiny footprints all over the walls and furniture where the leprechaun's had walked. It was so cool. I then looked all over for my little pot of gold hidden for me full of gold candy.

The tradition continues. Kate and Rachel couldn't wait to find their candy from the leprechauns on St. Patrick's Day. They are getting faster at finding their pots of gold so the leprechauns may need to be trickier next year!

Ahoy Matey!

Rachel saw the eye surgeon yesterday and now gets to wear an eye patch every day. She is less than excited. The good news is that she doesn't need glasses or surgery, at least for now. The vision in eye with the cataract (left eye) is worse than her right eye. She has to wear the patch to try to strengthen the left eye. We'll go in again in two months to reevaluate.

Today was day one with the patch. She only has to wear it for two hours a day and it was a long two hours! The patches are adhesive but didn't stick very well. Rach kept trying to cheat so I had to tape it on. Hopefully it will help!

Funnies part 2

We had company over for dinner tonight. Kate is our family spokesperson and likes to tell everyone everything about our family (not always a good thing). She told the couple that we used to live in Illinois. They asked what she was doing in Illinois. Kate looked right at him and said, "being a baby," like it should of been so obvious. It was very funny.

Family Home Evening Funnies

The girls have been doing great at reminding us to have family home evening. They love to plan everything. This week Rachel had activity and wanted to play the game Catch Phrase. She's been begging for a while but we've thought it was over their heads. This week we caved and Glen and I took turns giving clues to the girls. They were getting so into the game; sitting on the edge of their seats, hands clenched, ready for their clues. (If you're not familiar with the game, one person gives clues trying to get their teammate to guess the assigned word). Glen was giving Rach clues and the word he was describing was naughty. Glen said, "When you're not nice you...". Rachel, totally serious and into the game, jumped in and said, "you go to time out." Glen and I started laughing. Sensing that she didn't get it right, she blurted out "you get spanked," not that she has any idea what a real spank is. Glen and I just laughed like crazy. She just wanted to know if she guessed right. Glen said it counted and passed it back to me, still laughing.

On the mend

The doctors let us come home on Tuesday! Yeah! Connor was able to maintain his oxygen all night, something he had not been able to do the whole time we were in the hospital, so they let us come home. We still haven't left the house all week because he is still getting over his cold. I am getting antsy to get out. Thursday Connor had his two week check up and Rachel had her kindergarten visit. Connor now weighs 7lb 9oz. He is a total munch, so I'm not surprised he has gained so much weight already. Poor Rachie had to have another shot and then her vision and hearing test. She didn't pass her vision test. I called our eye doc and he had an opening for Friday so off to another doctor.

Rachie was actually a little excited to go to the eye doctor. It was taking longer than I expected, never a good sign. He confirmed that Rach is near sighted and will probably need glasses. Being how I'm as blind as a bat, I wasn't to surprised about that. Then the axe fell and he told me that Rachel has a cataract in her left eye. I could not have been more shocked. I had no idea that children, 4 year old children, can have cataracts. Now Rachel is going to see a surgeon to see if it needs to be removed or not. The earliest I could get her in is March 17. I have until then to worry about it. At least we are all recovering from the flu.
