Connor Update

Connor is such a wonderful little baby! We are so excited to have him in our family. He looks so much like Kate as a newborn it is amazing. We are all wondering if he will continue to look like her as he grows. It is hard for me to believe that he is now 12 days old. He is so content. He eats and sleeps. That is about it. When he eats in the middle of the night I just have to lay him down and he goes right back to sleep. I wish all kids were this easy!!!

Unfortunately our life changed this weekend. Kate has been sick all week with a cold and Friday Connor started to catch it. Saturday he had a mild fever so we called the doctor. They said anything over 100.4 and we'd find ourselves in the emergency room. Sure enough Sunday at lunch I took his temperature again and it went up to 102.2. I cried as I threw a couple things into a bag as quickly as we could before racing out the door to the hospital. We are lucky that Yale has a children's emergency room separate from the regular ER. They are so much nicer and quicker in the children's er. It probably helps that my boy is so cute!

Because of the high fever they had to do a number of tests: blood tests, nose swabs, chest x-rays, urine test via catheter and then a spinal tap. I'm really not a crier, but I cried right a long with Connor for all his tests. Actually probably more. After his back was numb, he slept through the spinal tap, even though it took three tries. It just killed me to see him go through all that. They also gave him an IV right away with fluids and antibiotics. My poor baby. It turns out he had the flu. He's being a very good sport about everything. And luckily, his fever has gone down. There is a chance we can go home tomorrow if he can maintain his oxygen on his own. Right now he has to have oxygen. He is still just sleeping away.

I took a bunch of cute pictures a couple days ago and have been excited to post them for all to see. Once we get home and I get a nap (these monitors are so annoying!!!), I'll post them.

Glen and I thought it was ironic to be back in the hospital yesterday as yesterday was my actual due date. Hopefully he can get all better soon and we can go back home. His sisters are missing their baby.

Our new addition

Here are a few shots of Connor. He was born February 11th at 2:07 a.m., he is 7 pounds and 21 inches long. He is just a little bean pole. The girls have been so excited to be able to finally hold him. Right now he is just so mellow, after the first cry he went to sleep. He slept almost the whole day. We will have more pictures of him tomorow.
