Everyday Rachel

Rachel is never wearing "normal" clothes. She changes princess outfits on an hourly basis. Our neighbor always tells me she's never seen Rachel in anything other than dress up clothes. True, true. I took this shot of her yesterday. This is our everyday Rachel. She's wearing dress up (this hour it is Jasmine), with her baby in the baby carrier and her baby diaper bag on her back. All while pushing the stroller around the house.

Rachel's first haircut

We finally did it! Rachel had her first haircut. I've been trying to convince her for a few months to get a haircut. It was getting so hard to comb. She remembers not having hair until she was two years old and hasn't wanted to part with it. When I asked her recently to cut it, she said "Mom, it took me 100 years to grow my princess hair!" But after some pretty bad bedhead a few days this week, she asked me to cut it. So today was the day! Both she and Kate got cuts. I cut off about 8 inches from both of them. I wasn't intending to cut Rachie's hair so short, but she moved during a cut and short it is. Now that it is done I actually really like it. I think she'll get used to it soon, at least I hope.

Countdown to baby!

We have six weeks from today until the baby is due. I am really (REALLY, REALLY) hoping he'll be born a week and a half early. Cross your fingers! Glen and the girls get a week off for winter break the entire week before my due date. Having him come early would make life much easier! We will have to see if he will accommodate me on this or not. Rachel was born at 36 weeks, which is just 2 weeks from now. He doesn't seem like he is in nearly the rush that Rachel was.

We've had a lot of fun getting ready. It really seems like it has been a long time since we've had a baby in our house. The girls seem so grown up. Over break Rachel and I put up the crib. We have the easiest crib in the world to set up. It consists of only 7 pieces, super easy. We started putting things together without a problem. When I only had one piece left Rachel started telling me I put the crib together wrong. I reassured her that mommy has put the crib together many times before, I know what I'm doing and she didn't need to worry. She insisted that I put the crib together wrong. Again I told her I was fine. After putting on the last piece she reminded me again so I had her show me. And, of course, I did it wrong!!! How she knew, I don't know. Rachel is very good at putting things together. I humbly apologized to my 4 year old for not listening to her earlier. The worst part was taking the crib apart. The part I had put on backwards didn't want to come off! Oh well. I learned my lesson. Always listen!

The last piece of his bedding came this week so again Rachel helped me put everything together. We thought we'd start him off early in our family with a vintage Jaguar theme bedding. Glen and I bought and assembled his dresser (thank you Ikea). Then the girls and I painted blocks with his name. His little corner of our room is complete. Now we wait.

Disney on Ice

We had the fun of going to the Disney on Ice show over break. It was so fun to see Kate and Rachel so excited, especially Rachel. As I've said before, Rachel is the princess. She only likes to wear dress up clothes. And her favorite princess of all is Ariel. The Disney show we saw had stories from The Little Mermaid (perfect!), The Lion King, Lilo and Stitch and Peter Pan. I was really amazed at how cool the show was. Rachel had to bring one of her many Ariel dolls to show Ariel that she had a doll of her. Kate loved seeing Peter Pan fly over the ice. It was all pretty cool.
